SLSU-Tomas Oppus Campus joins town's 54th Founding Anniversary celebration

As the only higher education institution in the Municipality of Tomas Oppus, Southern Leyte, SLSU - Tomas Oppus joined the Town's 54th Founding Anniversary Celebration on June 21, 2023, with the theme, "One Municipality, One Dream: Pagpalig-on sa Lungsod, Atong Kab-uton Alang sa Progresibo nga Kaugmaon". SLSU-TO Faculty and Administrative Staff headed by Campus Director, Dr. Constantino G. Medilo Jr., joined the celebration starting with the Thanksgiving Mass at 3:00 PM followed by the Anniversary Parade at 4:00 PM, which was also participated by the Philippine National Police, private and public secondary and elementary schools' faculty and staff, national and municipal officials and employees, private profit and non-profit organizations, Barangay officials, and the general public. And lastly at 5:30 PM, the Anniversary Celebration Program where selected SLSU-TO students under the Cultural Performing Arts Guild (CPAG) performed an Intermission Number. Notable persons in attendance were Province of Southern Leyte Governor Damian "Mian" G. Mercado, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Maasin City Division, Josilyn S. Solana, Municipal Mayor Jessica Marie Escaño-Pano and Vice-Mayor / Acting Municipal Mayor, Nicanor F. Tahup. The founding anniversary celebration commemorates the conversion of Tomas Oppus into a municipality from a barrio under the municipality of Malitbog by virtue of Republic Act No. 5777 as approved by the Sixth Congress of the Philippines on June 21, 1969, through the initiative of then-Congressman Nicanor E. Yñiguez under the government of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Happy 54th Founding Anniversary, Tomas Oppus! Wishing you another year full of blessings, growth, and prosperity!
