SLSU Bontoc Faculty Researcher heads to Bohol to attend 7ᵗʰ Int’l Livestock Biotechnology Symposium

 

SLSU Bontoc Faculty Researcher Webel Glenn Dublado, DVM, was privileged to have attended the 7ᵗʰ International Livestock Biotechnology Symposium and Philippine Society of Animal Science (PSAS) 60ᵗʰ Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting organized at the Bohol Tropics Resort, Tagbilaran City, Bohol from Oct 17-20, 2023. With the theme “Strengthening the Animal Industry Towards Resiliency,” approximately 450 participants consisting of researchers, scientists, scholars, practitioners, and students gathered together to hear from national and international experts on various issues and challenges in livestock productivity and, ultimately, strategies to achieving food security in the country.

State–of–the–art research, to mention a few, embryo-stem cell breeding system as a novel method to produce genetically superior animals by Prof. Dr. Zhoucheng Hou of China Agricultural University; In-vitro embryo production in ruminants by Dr. Kenichiro Sakaguchi of Hokkaido University, Japan; Application of Genomics to enhance resilience and productivity of indigenous livestock breeds for developing countries by Prof. Kwan-Suk Kim of the Chungbuk National University, Korea; and Mastitis control and its prevention by Dr. Ewen Ferguson, Program Advisor from the Ontario Veterinary College, Ontario Canada, were presented. Other research was presented as scientific posters.

Overall, the symposium gave an excellent opportunity to network and facilitate research collaborations to address strategies to improve animal health locally and globally collectively.
