SLSU-Bontoc heeds call for a Greening Program partnership with DMMS

Understanding the importance of agriculture to food security, SLSU-Bontoc heeds call for a Greening Program partnership with Diverse Minds Montessori School (DMMS), a kindergarten school situated a Brgy. Talisay, Bontoc, Southern Leyte. The partnership forged in 2023, started with establishing an edible garden within DMMS premises. This year, the partner institutions kicked off with growing vegetable and fruit seedlings at DMMS edible garden. Organized in two sessions on February 7, 2024, DMMS pupils as young as 4 years old, suit up, all attentive as students of the Bachelor of Agricultural Technology (BAT) of SLSU-Bontoc demonstrated how to properly transplant nursery-grown seedlings to outdoor garden.

“By growing their own food, we are teaching our pupils to be patient, to be responsible and most importantly, instill in them respect to our farmers…and we are grateful to SLSU-Bontoc for they have been instrumental in progressing this greening initiative,” said Ms Florian Gloria, DMMS School Administrator. From this activity, approximately 100 mixed seedlings of tomato and eggplant were successfully transplanted to DMMS edible garden.
