San Juan Campus lad, Main Campus lass proclaimed 2021 Mr. & Miss SLSU

SOGOD— San Juan Campus Cris John Omos and Main (Sogod) Campus Jacel Mae Doris Salinas were proclaimed winners of Mr. & Miss SLSU 2021 premiered on Friday, March 5, 2021.

Omos, 20, is a student of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) San Juan Campus taking up a Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Filipino. Salinas, also 20, is a student of SLSU Main Campus taking up Bachelor of Science in Technology, Livelihood and Education Major in Industrial Arts.

Omos is ‘grateful to have been given the opportunity” by winning the pageant. “By winning as this year’s Mr. SLSU, I am given the platform to represent and be the voice of the whole SLSU studentry along with Jacel,” he added.

“I did not expect to win the competition at all because other girls were of high caliber and it’s so hard to tell who’s going to win because I feel that any one of us deserves it,” Salinas said, saying she is also ‘blessed’ to have been chosen as this year’s Ms. SLSU.

Also present in the competition was Miss Eco International 2018 Cynthia Thomalla, who graced the event with her virtual presence. When asked by Thomalla why they should win this year’s pageant, Omos emphasized that ‘he has the characters of a brave and a fighter person”. He also delivered words of encouragement to his fellow students to “never give up even though it’s hard to adjust in this kind of learning because he believes that education is a passport towards a better future and that education is a basic human right”. Meanwhile, Salinas said during the question and answer portion that “she always has been perceiving, patronizing, and uplifting others” and if given the chance to win, she said that “she has the potential [to do great things] for the betterment of the university.”

Mr. & Miss SLSU is in line with the celebration of the 17th Charter Anniversary of the university on March 7, 2021, with a theme “We are SLSU because of You.” This activity is in partnership with SLSU Main Campus Cultural Affairs headed by the Director of Student Affairs and Services, Dr. Lorelie J. Paloma.

This activity aims to empower students through pageants to realize their personal, professional, and philanthropic goals through experiences that build self-confidence and act as catalyst among the whole studentry for future success.
