FOE Actively Participates in the First SLSU Engineering and Technology International Summit 2025

The Faculty of Engineering (FOE) of Southern Leyte State University actively participated in the first-ever SLSU Engineering and Technology International Summit 2025, held at the Main Campus Library Mini-Theatre with the theme, “Advancing Sustainable Engineering through Global Partnerships and Smart Technologies.” Organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Technology, the summit convened key university officials, faculty members, student leaders, and industry partners to explore how engineering and technology can drive transformative and sustainable development in the region and beyond.
FOE played a vital role in the summit’s success through thematic presentations led by Engr. Emmanueal Cabanig and Engr. Joeydann M. Telin. Engr. Cabanig presented “Global Immersion and Local Impact in SLSU Engineering through Faculty Exchange,” emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in enriching local engineering instruction and institutional capacity. Meanwhile, Engr. Telin’s presentation titled “Empowering Engineering Students through Immersive OJT in Smart and Sustainable Industries” highlighted the faculty’s initiatives in preparing students for the demands of Industry 4.0 through strong linkages with innovative industry partners.
These presentations reflect the Faculty of Engineering’s unwavering commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through its programs, FOE continues to promote inclusive, relevant, and forward-thinking engineering education that empowers both students and communities.
The summit also featured a keynote address from Dr. Pen-Chung Chen, Managing Director of the Sino-German Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Center, who emphasized that the convergence of smart manufacturing and academic innovation presents major opportunities for institutions like SLSU to lead in sustainable engineering. His message reinforced the relevance of global cooperation in shaping future-ready universities.
Through its active involvement in this international summit, the Faculty of Engineering reaffirmed its leadership in promoting sustainable innovation, global partnerships, and academic excellence. As SLSU expands its global engagement, FOE stands at the forefront—bridging smart technologies with social responsibility to become a powerful catalyst for sustainable engineering and community transformation.
