FHTM Faculty Members Explore Indonesia’s Rich Languages and Melodic Traditions in an In-Depth International Online Session

From July 7 to 18, 2025, faculty members of Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management Mr. Edevan Jay A. Magdula and Ms. Karyn Mae P. Galleto took part in the Virtual CommTECH Nusantara 2025, an engaging online seminar themed “Exploring Indonesia’s Local Languages and Traditional Songs.” The two-weeks program, participated in by 29 universities across Asia, brought together educators and cultural advocates from across the globe to celebrate Indonesia’s linguistic diversity and musical heritage.
Through interactive workshops, live demonstrations, and small-group discussions, participants learned about the nuances of local languages, the cultural history behind traditional songs, and their role in preserving community identity. Magdula and Galleto actively engaged in activities such as guided pronunciation practice, lyric interpretation, and rhythm exercises, gaining fresh insights into how language and music intertwine in storytelling and heritage preservation. They plan to integrate these learnings into their teaching through cross-cultural modules, performance-based learning, and comparative studies of Philippine and Indonesian traditions.
Their participation reflects the institution’s commitment to fostering global awareness, cultural appreciation, and innovative teaching approaches, ensuring that the voices and melodies of Southeast Asia continue to resonate in the hearts of future learners.
