500 years of faith: SLSU joins to celebrate 500 years of Philippine Christianity
500 years of love, hope, and faith!
The Southern Leyte State University joins the rest of the country to celebrate the 5th centenary anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines.
The Christian faith arrived in the Philippines 500 years ago today. It began when Ferdinand Magellan, who led a Spanish expedition in the Philippines on March 16, 1951. His sailors had planned to remain there for a month and a half. It is believed that during that time, the first Mass was celebrated on Filipino soil on the island of Limasawa, Southern Leyte. Some 800 were baptized to form the first Catholic community.
