Witnessing the signing of the deed of donation were the four Vice Presidents of SLSU and the Sangguniang Panglusod elected officials.
SLSU-MCC Director Ms. Maria Stela E. Roa described the turnover ceremony as a ‘manifestation of unity and solution, joy and hope’.
“I am very much blessed to be supported by the competent faculty members and staff whose dedication has inspired me to lead for the better, if not for the best”, she added.
As she received the signed deed of donation along with Roa, University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, in her speech, was grateful for the donation made by the City Government of Maasin.
“Your continued support for our vision to become a high quality corporate university of Science, Technology, and Innovation, particularly of SLSU-MCC’s continued growth and development, has been gratifying and overwhelming”, she added.
Yepes also emphasized the importance of this donation, saying that the students will have a better and a much more conducive learning space. The new soon-to-rise SLSU-MCC will also open job opportunities to the nearby communities as food and beverage stalls, boarding houses and apartments will soon pop up.
The lot donation will be utilized to serve and satisfy the needs and expectations of the university’s stakeholders, most especially the students, by adhering to good governance, relevance, and innovations of instruction, student services, research, extension services, and other mandated functions of the university.
The activity was also graced by Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag’s virtual presence, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner, and the Chairperson of the SLSU Board of Regents.
In his speech, Darilag mentioned that the new SLSU-MCC shall provide ‘quality, tertiary education as well as skilled professionals who can contribute to the needs of Maasin community.’
“This donation will be a significant present to the established pillar of science and technology in the region that can support SLSU to pursue greater knowledge and expertise for the common good” Darilag added, reaffirming his commitment to the ‘continued success’ of the university.
It was on September 27, 2018 when the then Maasin City College (MCC) was converted to now one of the external campuses of SLSU. This initiative created a positive impact most especially on the students through RA 10931 or the Universal Act for Access to Quality Tertiary Education, where they can avail benefits and privileges each SLSU bonafide student can enjoy.
“Looking at the future, we will always work closely to make Maasin City Campus not just centers of excellence and development, but a haven for well-mannered, skilled, and competent students that will supply the needed workforce in the City, the Province, and the nation as a whole,” Roa said.
The activity ended with a unity dance which was joined by SLSU and Maasin City Government officials, along with the faculty and staff of SLSU-MCC present during the event.
